Our strength-of-record (SOR) ratings drew inspiration from a few sources.  Thanks to the ESPN Stats team for popularizing the concept and Yale SA group for sharing their approach.  SOR ratings attempt to quantify how impressive a team’s record is given the schedule they faced.  Specifically, these rankings show, for each team, how many wins we would expect a generic top-10 team to achieve against their schedule.  The far right column, ‘Excess Wins’, is the difference between each team’s win record and the expected wins for that generic top-10 team.  An excess win can be considered a win that the team scored that a generic top 10 team would not.
